Thanks to Debbie, we have found that the actual count was 400-500 crickets. WISTV.com still reports 7,000 but the salisburypost.com reports the lower number. Read the salisburypost.com article here.
A senior prank went wrong…Pest Management Professionals were called into a Rowan County school district in North Carolina because of the criminal acts of eight students. The students release over 7,000 crickets into the area where 10th graders attend classes. All of the students were charged with breaking and entering by police, and suspended from school.e

Before you release a story you ought to get the facts straight. It was not 7000 it was between 400 and 500. A big difference. Great to know your website can not be trusted for the truth. Won’t was my time here any more

We got our information from the local news station in North Carolina. WIS10 (http://www.wistv.com) is the location of the source as you can tell by the bottom of the post. We looked further into the issue and now do see that the actual count was 400-500 crickets as per a SalsburyPost.com news article (http://www.salisburypost.com/Area/110409-WEB-cricket-caper-the-source)
