Happy Halloween!! Tonight, you expect to see vampires, ghosts and goblins around your neighborhood but it’s the bats, spiders and other pests that will be giving you the nightmares! As temperatures have begun to cool in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut outdoor pests are seeking a warm place for the winter and they want to come into your home and place of business.
Certain pests, such as bats and bed bugs, have a resemblance to Halloween characters! Bedbugs are similar to vampires in the sense that they are both nocturnal, bloodsucking creatures.
To keep spiders, mice, roaches, and other unwelcome creepy crawlers out of your home, keep all food and sweets stored in air tight containers. Don’t let your kids leave their candy on the floor as this is an open invitation for pests. If you insist on carving and leaving your pumpkin outside, it’s a good idea to bring it in at night to avoid attracting mice, rats and other outdoor pests that are looking for food and warmth.
Don’t let pests be a nightmare in your home anymore! If you live in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut call JP McHale Pest Management Inc. for all of your residential and commercial pest control services.

Hunter Fine, who works in advertising but did not elaborate, is working solo on a new kind of public service, one that alerts new residents that their lower east side apartment may have bed bugs. In an article published by The New York Observer, Mr. Fine began setting up these mini-hotel structures and has set up nine so far and is encouraging others to make their own “Bed Bug Hotels” and place them outside residents that are infected.
“It’s not a viral marketing campaign,” Mr. Fine told The New York Observer by phone. “It’s an art project.” But not one meant to humiliate those renters who have to walk past a structure declaring their apartment bug-riddled every day. It’s to shame the landlords into doing something about their infestations. “There’s laws against landlords not alerting tenants to bug problems…they’re obligated to care of it. But it hardly ever happens.”
Even though the art project is called Bed Bug Hotels, it appears that the bed bug project is geared towards apartments, not hotels. He is hoping that with the use of social media sites picking up on bed bug stories, that the bed bug art project idea will catch on and force landlords into taking action.
“Mr. Fine noted that he intends to continue to get landlords to take action. If others start jumping on the project, Bed Bug Hotels may start being as ubiquitous as the little critters themselves.”

An effective bed bug control strategy should start with a careful, thorough bed bug k9 inspection by a pest control professional of all suspected spots where bed bugs may be harboring.
In most cases, bed bugs are not a pest that can be controlled effectively with do-it-yourself measures. After a thorough inspection, preferably with the aid of a k9 bed bug detection team, the pest control professional will develop a bed bug treatment plan based on your inspection results and a control strategy will be implemented depending on the extent of the infestation.

Bed bugs are not just in beds. They can be in chair cushions, sofas, behind electrical outlets, cracks and crevices around baseboards, behind picture frames and even transferred in personal belongings. In other words, they can live pretty much anywhere.

There is currently no “silver bullet” to eliminate bed bugs but there are a myriad of treatment and proactive prevention options available. As Pest Management Professionals it is is important that we provide our customer’s with as much factual information that is known and stay current on new bed bug technology.
In the October 2011 issue of Pest Control Technolgy magazine, Gregg Baumann from The National Pest Management Association, highlighted the importance for pest management professionals to come together and have one voice in the bed bug industry. PCT understand that there are some grey areas when dealing with bed bugs, however, they stress that consistency will be more effective and efficient to the industry as a whole.
“Understanding current research findings and telling the whole story will present an industry united when we are showing our industry expertise.”

Then all you need is a few pipe cleaners that you can cover with aluminum and construction paper to use as antennas and hot glue them to a brown hat or headband. Bed Bug Fecal Matter & Stains: Look for stains from blood or fecal matter that bed bugs leave behind. These signs can sometimes be found on bedding. Staining does not always mean that you have bed bugs but further investigation should be conducted.
Bed Bug Exoskeleton, Cast or Shed Skins: Bed bugs often leave their dried-up cast skin as evidence! They often appear to look like dried-out bug shells.
Bed Bug Eggs: Bed bug eggs are often difficult to see with the untrained eye. You should use a magnifying glass and a flashlight if looking for these rice-sized eggs that are clear to milky in color.
Bed Bugs: Obvious signs of a bed bug infestation is to find the bug, which is often hard to do since they typically feed at night and then go into hiding.
Bed Bug Bites: If you have unexplained bite marks it may be an indicating factor that you are being bit by bed bugs. Bed bug bites often cause skin reactions, but finding the evidence is key. Many people do not have a reaction to bed bug bites at all.
