During the summer JP McHale’s Outreach Committee held a local clothing and coat drive. All of the items that were donated were then given to local church to help those in need.

ABC 7 in Denver reports that an elementary school is dealing with a bed bug problem! Although this elementary school with bed bugs is in Denver, that doesn’t mean that your local school in either New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are exempt from bed bugs! If you or your child suspect bed bugs either at home or at school notify your school administration and have them contact our office so we can set up a full bed bug elimination program.

Flea Bite Mark
Did you know that flea’s can feed off of humans? Bites can often resemble the bite marks left from bed bugs.
If you are experiencing bite marks and are unsure of the source, a bed bug canine inspection can rule out the suspicion of bed bugs.

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) encourages homeowners to take proactive steps to prevent a stink bug infestation in and around the home this fall.
NPMA offers the following stink bug prevention tips:
- Seal and caulk cracks around windows, doors, siding, utility pipes, behind chimneys and underneath the wood fascia and other openings.
- Repair or replace damaged screens on windows or doors.
- Keep outdoor lighting to a minimum as stink bugs are attracted to lights.
- If stink bugs have already entered a home, use a vacuum cleaner for their removal and dispose of the bag immediately.
- If an infestation has developed, a licensed pest professional should be contacted to evaluate and assess the severity problem.

One fire station is dealing with more than fires and emergency calls. As reported by NBC in San Diego this fire station has bed bugs. They are calling it the latest string of bed bug outbreaks which is affecting local fire stations and fire fighters.
KFMB TV8 in San Diego ran a bed bug story eight months ago another firehouse was also infested with bed bugs and a bed bug sniffing dog was brought in to do a bed bug inspection.

Do you know what a bed bug looks like?
Bed bugs can easily be mistaken for other pests by an untrained eye.
Early identification and intervention is key to fending off full blown bed bug infestations.
If you find a bug and you suspect it is either a live bed bug or a dead bed bug, please capture the specimen with tape, place it in a securely sealed zip lock bag and then call our office at 800-479-2284. Our office staff will promptly get you scheduled for an inspection.

In Ben H. Winters new book, Bedbugs, you’ll most likely be sleeping with one eye open!
Here’s an little bit of what you’re in store for when you read this book about a couple in New York City:
Alex and Susan Wendt are the perfect couple in search of the perfect brownstone-and they find their dream house in the heart of Brooklyn Heights. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a government study released Thursday found that dozens of Americans have fallen ill from the insecticides, and a woman died after using 18 cans of chemical fogger to attack the tiny blood suckers. Because many of the cases, including the lone death, were do-it-yourselfers who misused the chemicals or applied the wrong product, federal health officials are warning consumers to be careful and urging them to call professionals. The CDC published these details acute illness associated with insecticides used to control bed bug affected people in seven states from 2003-2010.
