New York City is taking charge of the Bed Bug problem

The government is finally going to pour heavy money into managing the bed bug epidemic that has hit New York hard in the past few years.  The infestations have got out of hand with the pests lingering far outside the bedroom.  They have been spotted in clothing stores, movie theaters, schools, and hospitals.  Metro.com published an article today that explains the city’s approach.  The city plans on spending $500,000 to assemble a council and inform consumers how to handle a bed bug problem, as well as setting standards on how to handle an infestation.  They are going to dedicate a web portal to which consumers can have an array of resources to use when handling bed bugs.  They city is also looking into a way for landlords to have responsibility for their tenant issues.  Currently the landlords just need to show a record of the past infestations but the city feels, along with many other people, that there should be more.  People are still wondering where the pests came from and why now.  In previous decades there has been no noise of bed  bug cases but in the last year, there has been a tremendous amount.  The one answer many people agree on is that the increase of international traveling is spreading the bed bugs at a rapid pace.  Bed bugs have been a hot topic in New York.  If you would like more information or have any bed bug questions, contact JP McHale Pest Management.  We are the leader in New York Bed Bug Removal.   Contact us by phone 800-479-2284, email, live chat, twitter, or facebook for an inspection!

NYC.gov has a section on its website dedicated to bed bugs.  The web page lists common questions people often ask about bed bugs and then answer them.  Questions answered include how to prevent them, how you should prep for a bed bug extermination, and information on the bugs themselves. New York City wants Bed Bug Czar

Today ABC.com published a short article that talks about how New York City is considering to make a “bed bug czar”.  An advisory board recently suggested to Mayor Bloomberg that he implements a post dedicated to fighting bed bugs.  With bed bug cases in the city increase, maybe citizens feel this would help the epidemic.  A press conference tomorrow will decide if the mayor will pass this idea and have a bed bug expert run the segments.  Stay tuned to see what happens!

New York’s Government is stepping in on the Bed Bug problem

Today The Wall Street Journal published an article that talks about the government’s approach to the growing bed bug problem in New York.  The government’s previous stance on the matter was to left individuals and businesses handle it on their own, but now they feel they should step in and try to help.  In April the city’s Bed Bug Advisory Board submitted a complaint to the state and the state is finally going to respond.  One of the ideas brought up was to make a website dedicated to bed bug information and prevention.  The website could “serve as a central clearinghouse for information for different audience”.   The state also wants to stress bed bug education to be brought up in the classrooms.  Anywhere from elementary schools to colleges could be taught how to identify and prevent bed bugs.  If a home has bed bugs there is a good chance the children can spread them if they do not realize that they have them.  If your house or business has a bed bug problem,  JP McHale can help.  We can answer any question you have and tell you the best solution to your problem.  Contact us by phone 800-479-2284, email, live chat, twitter, or facebook for an inspection!

Bed bugs in condo complex in upstate New York

A news channel station from upstate New York posted a segment where the landlord is stepping in and helping tenants with their bed bug issues.  Not all apartment complexes are cover under bed bugs because althought they are a bug nuisance, they do not pose as a health threat.

One tenant is fed up with Bed Bugs in Las Vegas!

Our friends over at K-9 Sweeps posted a news video on eliminating bed bugs.  Like New York, Las Vegas has been battling the bed bug epidemic too.  One tenant in a condo complex got fed up when bug bugs continued to bite her night after night.  News 13 was called in to help.  Management agreed to spray her condo but that is not enough to kill them.  Spraying the room does not get rid of the bed bugs.  Heat is the best approach.  Temperatures that exceed 114 degrees will kill the bugs in any stage.  K-9 Sweeps brought in their bed bug sniffing dog, Sarah, who can detect where all the bed bug hot spots are.  We have a similar dog, Trixie.  The canine dog can sniff where bed bug eggs are, unlike humans that cannot see the tiny particles.  Check out the video!
