There are a few members in congress that do not like bed bugs at all. They have introduced a bill where each state must inspect at least 20% of their hotel rooms. This proposed bill wall cost about $50 million dollars. This will also raise consumer awareness to which hotels are buckling down with their pest control, and who is not.

James P. McHale, Jr., owner and operator of J.P. McHale Pest Management, Inc. was presented with the 40 under 40 Award from PCT (Pest Control Technology) Magazine in a ceremony that took place on November 19th in Houston, Texas.
Last spring, PCT Magazine (the #1 Trade Magazine for the Pest Control Industry) conducted a search to find members of the pest management community who will lead the industry into the years ahead. The individuals had to be less than 40 years of age and from all areas of the industry – owners, researchers, manufacturer representatives, association officials, regulatory personnel, etc. They looked at pest control companies throughout the country and reviewed, literally, hundreds of nominations. A representative from the magazine notified Mr. McHale that he had been nominated and was in fact being awarded this prestigious honor. The official announcementl appeared in their October 2003 issue.
What does this mean for Jim? Aside from being a tremendous honor, it means that the industry not only acknowledges Jim for his achievements within the industry and within his own company, it also means that he is one of 40 individuals that his peers in the pest management community recognize as being a true leader in the industry who will help to pave the way for its future growth and prosperity. When asked why he thought he was nominated and ultimately won the 40 Under 40, Jim gave it some thought and said, “Obviously, it’s an honor to have been selected to receive this award. My philosophy has always been to take care of my customers. And, when I say customers, I don’t just mean my end customer. I also mean my employees and manufacturing reps who help to support my vision.”
No stranger to public recognition and service, James is a former Board Member of the NYS Restaurant Association and was named the NYSRA Associate Restaurateur in 2002. He was a past President of the NYS Pest Association and is currently a member of the National Pest Management Association. Mr. McHale is a supporter of many community events, including the Cortlandt Little League and sponsors an annual golf outing that raises money to benefit the Keon Center for Learning in Peekskill, NY.
A new law enacted in a Boston, MA community made it illegal to leave untreated water in your lawn for extended periods of time. At first, a warning will be issued, and then a fine after the warning has been issued. The authorities said.. people will be given lots of warnings. This law is to assist in helping reduce the amount of mosquitoes that can carry West Nile Virus.
A 74 year old man in Pakistan had a major ant problem. He got extremely angry and poured gallons of a type of ant-killer pesticide into the ventilation system. After receiving no immediate results he threw a towel that was on fire. Shortly after, a whole block of living space was destroyed. WOW!
It seems like something from the movies…Fire Ants. These little ants, about 5 mm long can be quite painful if they bite you. “The swelling was far worse than expected. Within 35 minutes it looked like someone had blown up his hand”, said a man who was bit by one of these ants. Fire ants are not popular in the northeast but in Canada the numbers are increasing. If you get bit by a fire ant, it is recommended that you get medical help. If you spot fire ants please call your local pest control company as they are a very serious issue.
